Approval and Grant Awarded for Groundwater

Last summer, the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) was approved, congratulations and thank you to everyone who was involved in making that happen.

In addition, the Sutter Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) were awarded $8,530,000 in grant funding from the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) under the Sustainable Groundwater Management (SGM) Grant Program’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) Implementation – Round 2.

Activities to be funded as part of the grant will be completed by early 2026 and include preparation of four Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP) Annual Reports, updates to the C2VSimFG-Sutter model, stakeholder outreach and interbasin coordination as part of SGMA, transducer installation on all groundwater level monitoring wells in the GSP monitoring network, a towed transient electromagnetic (tTEM) survey of the Sutter Buttes to better understand the complex subsurface geology, and a long term GSP financing plan.

Additionally, irrigation system improvements within Butte Water District are also funded by the grant and support continued groundwater sustainability in the Sutter Subbasin.
