Modernizing Karnack

We are making steady progress on our application for PL-566 monies to modernize the Karnack Pumping Facility. The upgrades of the RD 1500 pumping station will include new submersible pumps and new operation controls so the site will become completely autonomous.

Monitoring of the facility will be done through the SCADA (Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition) software and hardware system that will be installed as part of the upgrades. Estimated construction costs will run between $60-$70 million dollars, with RD1500’s share estimated to be $6 million.

The site was first put into service in 1913, and 111 years later, Karnack is still operational today. We hope to have another update in July.
